European Leagues

Chris Gerstle, Director | Strategy & Development, is responsible for developing and leading key strategic priorities to support European Leagues' (EL) Members in the management and future development of their professional club competitions with a focus on exploring and managing new commercial strategic initiatives. Prior to joining the EL, he completed the 'Sport Management & Business of Football' Master’s programme at Birkbeck, University of London and previously worked at BlackRock, the global investment manager and technology provider.

The European Leagues (EL) – formerly known as the Association of European Professional Football Leagues – is the voice of Professional Football Leagues across Europe on all matters of common interest. The association, which is governed by Swiss law founded in 2005 and based in Nyon Switzerland, traces its origins back to the founding in 1997 of the EUPPFL (Association of European Union Premier Professional Football Leagues). Originally founded by 14 members; Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland, Spain and Sweden, the European Leagues now includes 40 professional football leagues and associations of clubs from 34 countries, representing more than 1000 clubs from all over Europe.
